About Ash.and gold

Ash.and gold

Inspired by the emotional resonance of the natural world, I create lasting pieces that encapsulate the beauty of flora and fauna.

As a Potter, I'm deeply inspired by the flora and fauna that surrounds me, whether it is from a collection of flowers or whilst out walking my cocker spaniel, Ash . The idea that you can preserve a moment of time or the beauty of a bouquet I find unique. Capturing a memory of a special occasion or an everlasting reminder of a favourite flower or garden.
I try to arrange the flowers to highlight their intricate forms such as the unfurling of a fern frond, the intricate geometry of a sunflower or the ephemeral beauty of a blossoming bud.
I strive to capture the essence of a plant, its unique character, translating its organic lines into the enduring form of a vessel.
Working using the handbuilding technique, in order, I hope that my work offers a moment of connection to the natural world. I work primarily with stoneware, giving them strength but allowing the delicate details of the pressed flower to shine, embracing the unpredictable nature of the firing process.
The subtle variations in colour and texture that emerge from the kiln become part of the pieces story.
Everything is sustainably made in my small garden studio nestled within the Lincolnshire Wolds, surrounded by my own gardens collection of flowers, usually with Ash by my side.
