I'm inspired by the natural world. The image came from a wintry walk with my beloved cocker spaniel Ash. Winter can reveal the beauty of trees in a unique way. Without their leaves, their intricate shapes and textures are more visible. The knarled branches and bark can tell a story of the trees life and what it has overcome.
The natural world is full of wonders, and it's often the small details that spark creativity.

Full description
This handcrafted ceramic vase captures the essence of a winters walk. Decorated with a knarled tree and crows flying across a wintry sky.
I worked using the hand-building technique and with a scraffito design. The vase is crafted in stoneware and then fired to 1250'. Bought to life using a colour wash to evoke the natural world, delicately applied so it can settle into the textured surfaces and crevices, adding depth and richness, contrasting with the creaminess of the stoneware. The piece has then been glazed inside and out to further pick out the details.
The piece is approximately 17cm by 5.5cm, being the perfect vessel for a single bloom or a collection of seed heads.
Creating a final piece that is timeless and a celebration of nature's fleeting beauty captured in enduring clay
