The Green Man or Foliate Head has a rich history in medieval Christian and neo-Pagan symbolism. His leafy demeanour is thought to represent fertility, re-birth, the cycle of life and turning of the seasons. Hawthorn and it's blossom, sometimes referred to as 'The May' is known in folklore as the fairy tree, and is sometimes considered to be a portal to the fairy realms!

Full description

A larger size earthenware ceramic hand made and glazed wall-mounted Foliate Head/Greenman featuring May Hawthorn blossom.

Hawthorn is finished with beautiful vibrant green leaves and snowy white blossoms tinged with pink. Hawthorn has a matt finish face and striking eyes! Hawthorn has a wire hanger on the back which can be removed if you would rather hang it with two screws (holes supplied).

Size is approx. 19cm wide x 22cm long

NOTE - There is a tiny cosmetic hairline crack on the back (see last photo). It is purely surface and does not affect the integrity/strength of the piece at all, but I wish to point it out to you; I would never knowingly sell anything that I would not consider structurally sound. I have reduced the piece accordingly. That's clay for you!

I AM AN EARTHENWARE CREATION - that means that although I am beautiful and strong, I should ideally spend my life indoors. I can be put outside during warmer, dry weather but please take me back inside when it gets wet and cold so that the frost and damp don't cause me to crack.
