I love making table runners! For me, they are the perfect combination of patchwork piecing and quilting. Once I’ve settled on a design, I really enjoy selecting fabrics that will contrast and compliment each other. I then cut them up and sew them back together in a different order! My artistry doesn’t end there though, because I then consider how to quilt the piece. Sometimes I decide on a relatively simple grid or straight lines design, whereas other times I might quilt an all-over free motion design of swirls, leaves or perhaps something else!

Handmade braid design quilted patchwork table runner made with floral fabric in pastel shades.
Entirely handmade by myself, this beautiful table runner measures 38" (97cm) long x 13" (33cm) wide.
I've pieced together a selection of nine different premium cotton fabric floral prints in a symmetrical herringbone pattern to create the top panel and then added a co-ordinating cream cotton border. I've also quilted the top panel with wavy lines for extra interest.
For the reverse side of this table runner I've used a whole piece of cream and white cotton fabric featuring a leaf pattern. There is a layer of cotton wadding sewn in between the front and reverse sides and finally I've sewn a co-ordinating beige and blue floral facing strip all the way around the edges.
May be gently hand washed and then dried flat.
