I love making table runners! For me, they are the perfect combination of patchwork piecing and quilting. Once I’ve settled on a design, I really enjoy selecting fabrics that will contrast and compliment each other. I then cut them up and sew them back together in a different order! My artistry doesn’t end there though, because I then consider how to quilt the piece. Sometimes I decide on a relatively simple grid or straight lines design, whereas other times I might quilt an all-over free motion design of swirls, leaves or perhaps something else!

A lovely handmade batik fabric quilted patchwork modern design table runner.
The fabric that I've used for this runner is in complementary colours of mid and dark blue, mid and light green and mid and light grey. The fabric features a nice marbled effect and there are silver and gold coloured metallic highlights. I've created a patchwork pattern of squares within squares and have continued the geometric theme with diamond shaped quilting.
The quilting carries through to the reverse side, where I've used an all-over print fabric design in a different style - so this is really two table toppers in one, as you can flip the piece over if you would like a change! A layer of soft cotton blend wadding is sewn between the layers to support the quilting and I've added a bound edge all the way around.
This table topper measures 24.5" (62.2cm) long x 17.75" (45cm) wide. It is hand washable; please dry flat.
