I love making trinket boxes – using the crafting technique known as cartonnage!
I begin by measuring and cutting the various box pieces from mountboard and then carefully stretch polyester batting and fabric over them to create the sides, base and top, or lid, of the box. The exterior and interior surface pieces are then securely glued together and finally I hand stitch the side seam and base join to complete the box!

Colourful Christmas fabric covered trinket box, padded and lined with tartan fabric.
Measures 6 inches (15 cm) square by 4.75 inches (12cm) high.
I've covered the exterior of this box with a beautiful Christmas printed fabric featuring illustrations of ice skates, wreaths and other Christmas themes. The interior is lined with a green, red and gold tartan fabric. This box is one of a kind and unique.
All fabrics are 100% cotton and all surfaces apart from the base are padded, which gives a luxuriously soft texture.
Entirely handmade, this box has a multitude of uses including storage for wrapped sweets, baubles or even as a luxury, reusable gift container.
