Pearls are considered the 30th wedding anniversary gift and the birthstone for June.
They are also associated with marriage, and are a popular choice as bridal jewellery.
In ancient China pearls were believed to protect the wearer from fire - and fire-breathing dragons!
They are also commonly linked to purity and innocence, the moon, the Goddess Venus, tears shed by the gods, and the journey of the soul along the path of perfection.
Red Agate was much prized by ancient warriors as it was considered a stone of protection, and thought to promote strength and courage in battle.

Full description
This freshwater Pearl and Agate necklace features a central single freshwater button Pearl that has, to either side, a trio of 6mm red Agate, two 4mm quality Austrian 'scarlet' crystal bicones and a row of five freshwater button Pearls, all separated by tiny 1.8mm sterling silver spacers.
The necklace continues on each side with five Agate beads, three more Pearl and a further trio of Agate beads before graduating to alternating 4mm beads of red Carnelian and Czech glass Pearls.
The necklace fastens with a Tibetan silver tulip toggle clasp that is nickel and lead free.
Button Pearls are similar to potato Pearls but are flattened on one side, and these ones have a creamy-white colour with a lovely rainbow iridescence when they catch the light.
Handmade in my home workshop here in beautiful Devon, UK, this would make a beautiful gift for a June birthday, 30th wedding anniversary, bridesmaid, Valentine or Mother's Day gift, or to keep as a treat for yourself.
This striking necklace measures approximately 17 inches (43cm).
