Pearls have been used by man for over 4000 years - the earliest written mention of natural pearls was recorded by a Chinese historian in 2206 BC.
In ancient Vedic texts, the pearl is born of Earth's waters and Heaven's powers, fertilised by a flash of lightening.
The pearl is the birthstone of June and Gemini, and the stone for the 30th wedding anniversary.
It's association with purity also make it popular in bridal jewellery.

Full description
Lilac freshwater Pearls with pink and lavender crystals, Rose Quartz, gold vermeil and Tibetan style gold flower beads.
The centrepiece features an approximately 10x5mm lilac freshwater button Pearl roughly shaped like a heart.
On either side, a trio of 6mm quality Austrian crystal flower bead in the colours 'violet', 'fuchsia' and 'light rose', separated by 1.8mm gold vermeil spacers, sit between 5mm Tibetan flower beads with an antique gold finish.
Beyond these, two rows of 4-5mm freshwater potato pearls in shades of lilac, lavender and pink are separated by a trio of sparkly 4mm quality Austrian crystal bicones in the colours 'light amethyst', 'fuchsia' and 'light rose', and highlighted with gold vermeil spacers and flower beads.
The necklace continues with 4mm Rose Quartz embellished with flowers, and fastens with a Tibetan style gold rose toggle clasp.
The clasp and flower beads are nickel and lead free.
The Pearls have a gorgeous iridescent sheen, the crystals have a lovely sparkle and the gold adds warmth and shine.
Handmade in my home workshop here in beautiful Devon, UK, this would make a wonderful gift for a birthday, anniversary, bridesmaid, Mother's Day, or keep it as a treat for yourself.
This necklace measures approximately 16.5 inches (42cm), perfect for a 6 inch (15cm) wrist.
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
