This beautiful piece of spalted beech deserved to be turned into something which can owned and loved for a long time, and I wanted a simple shape to really show off the spalting.

The bowl is natural spalted beech. It is finished with a commercial resin beeswax product (Alfie Shine).

Full description
This small trinket bowl is made from an amazing piece of spalted beech. The old-world map-like markings are the result of a fungus which grows in the wood while it is wet. Once dry, the pattern is fixed, and when turned it reveals amazing surprises.
There is a small foot, and a classic curved shape with a clean rim. The spalting gives browns, oranges, black and yellow markings throughout with the natural wood being a warm yellow.
The bowl has been finished with a natural resin infused beeswax and buffed to a sheen. The finish has a pleasing frankincense aroma.
The surface is smooth, but spalting often gives an uneven texture as some parts are harder than others, and so you will be able to feel the natural bowl as you hold it in your hands.
The bowl is ideal for small trinkets, keys, wrapped sweets, coins and the like, and would make a lovely decorative addition to any room. It should not be used for food or liquids.
The bowl is around 5 inches / 12.5 cm in diameter.
Wood is a natural product, and over time with changes in humidity can warp and in extreme circumstances small cracks can appear. This is a normal part of owning hand turned wooden items.
