I love making trinket boxes – using the crafting technique known as cartonnage!
I begin by measuring and cutting the various box pieces from mountboard and then carefully stretch polyester batting and fabric over them to create the sides, base and top, or lid, of the box. The exterior and interior surface pieces are then securely glued together and finally I hand stitch the side seam and base join to complete the box!

A Ships fabric covered handmade trinket box with a removable lid, padded and lined.
It would be a lovely gift in its own right or it could be used as a reusable gift container. I've covered the exterior of the box with a lovely boats printed fabric in navy and white on a beige background and the interior of the box is lined with a dark grey and cream fabric which has illustrations of sea shells and sea creatures. All fabrics are 100% cotton and all surfaces apart from the base are padded.
Entirely handmade, this box is perfect for storing those small but essential items - you could use it to store drinks coasters, a pair of glasses, a small remote control or perhaps to keep your small change safely! It would also make a perfect, reusable gift container for a voucher or other small present.
The overall size of this box is 6 inches (15.25 cm) wide by 6 inches (15.25 cm) deep by 5 inches (12.75 cm) high.
The lid is 6 inches (15.25 cm) wide by 6 inches (15.25cm) deep by 2 inches (5 cm) high and it fits onto the base, which is 5.25 inches (13.5 cm) wide by 5.25 inches (13.5 cm) deep by 4.25 inches (10.5 cm) high.
