Hi, I'm The Old Button - welcome to my shop and I hope you find lovely things that you would like to buy.
I post every day, using Royal Mail First Class for cards, and Track 24 for all other items, and I can post directly to the recipient - see my Upgrades listings. Dispatch times are currently 1-3 days for most of my makes, with a few taking longer as indicated in the item details.
In the busy run up to Christmas, I'm no longer taking commissions for my embroidered play scenes and my patchwork quilts, but I have gift voucher options. The last day for ordering my custom hand embroidered Christmas stockings and Child's Drawing Pictures is Monday 9th December. For all other items I will be open right up until Christmas week.
The tulip motif I used was originally on a 1930s patchwork quilt, in a red and pink colourway on white, and was sewn in cotton using the traditional needle turn method.
I am experimenting with different colours, materials and techniques - this uses 100% wool felt with blanket stitch edging, in strong colours that feel more 1950s than 30s.

Full description
A mini appliqued cushion, featuring my modern interpretation of a stunning art deco spray of tulips that I saw on a 1930s handmade quilt. This is a small decorative item - perfect as a pretty accent on your bed or little chair, or popping on a shelf to brighten a corner.
Treat yourself or buy as a gift for Mum or your grandmother. Or maybe a little leaving gift for a work colleague?
I also sell this as a sew it yourself kit to make either the mini-cushion or a wall hanging - an ideal gift for a crafty friend
I hand cut the motif from 100% wool felt in vibrant shades of hot pink, red and emerald green, and hand embroidered them to the aqua background fabric, using a small blanket stitch. Through layering of the felt and flipping the colours of the embroidery thread, I created a 3-D effect for the tulip petals, that I think contrasts well with the more subtle outline of the linear leaf shape.
As the colours felt more 1950s than 30s, I chose a subtle hatched background fabric in a paler aqua that reminds me of mid-century formina topped kitchen tables. The backing is cream cotton calico, and the filling is toy-grade stuffing. It is stitched closed by hand.
