Family recipies handed down the generations. Welsh Cakes are sweet almost scone-like cakes cooked flat on a griddle, traditionally studded with raisins but I prefer mine plain. Bara Brith is a rich fruit cake, where the fruit is soaked overnight in liquid tea (no milk!) before mixing with the other cake ingredients.
Plus the Welsh flag colours of course....

A lighter version of a Welsh High Tea, snuggled up with some vintage wool blankets and quilts? Sounds perfectly imperfect to me.
These slow stitching kits are a mixture - each contains many of the pieces in my Vintage Brown Welsh Cake themed kit, but with the missing ingredients substituted by little snips of Welsh wool blankets and quilts.
The photos are from my full-theme kits, and show examples of the fabrics and haberdashery you wil receive.
Each mix is slightly different from each other, each is equally beautiful, each has fragments of rare and inusual textiles from days gone by, including.
- snippets of different types of Welsh wool blankets from vintage 1930s through to modern reproductions
- fragments of an antique hand stitched quilt, or two
- hand crocheted doilies and crisp tablecloths with lace edges
- scraps of floral cotton prints
- bits of upholstery trims, frothy lace, ribbons and tapes
- lengths of tapestry, darning and knitting yarns, and hand dyed linen threads
- and of course, some old buttons
Plus the basics - some pins and a needle, 4 lengths of embroidery thread in different colours, and a piece of calico to stitch things onto. Plus my introduction to slow stitching guide.
