Hi and welcome to The Old Button Sews, where I sell beautiful gifts designed and sewn by me. Special commissions are welcome - just click the "contact" button above.
I also sell craft kits and fabric supplies - and am moving them across to my new shop The Old Button Supplies - search for me on Folksy.
These vintage transfer papers from the 30s are so clever and versatile - allowing everyone to add beauty and charm to everyday textiles in their own unique way. I am using them to learn new stitches and techniques - both modern and traditional - and I have turned some into sewing kits so you can have a go yourself.
You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.
Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.

A single rose - inspired by a book of vintage 1930s embroidery transfers. My kit gives you everything you need to sew and display your own beautiful version of textile history.
Your kit includes:
- a piece of Irish linen as the background fabric
- a stick and sew paper with printed design
- DMC embroidery threads in a choice of 3 colour themes - see options
- Embroidery needle (John James size 8)
- Mount board and backing felt, with adhesive
- Detailed instructions, with stitch guide
You can choose to use any embroidery stitches for your Rose, or you can follow my detailed stitch guide - I used padded or raised satin stitch, fly stitch and back stitch - and I show you how to do them.
The instructions explain how to use the stick and sew paper, and how to mount the embroidery to the board.
You will need a pair of scissors to cut the thread, and trim the backing fabric to fit the board.
Optional embroidery hoop - while not essential, a hoop is helpful in holding your work taut as you sew. I suggest a 6 inch hoop for this size of work, and you can use any brand. The kit has an add-on option if you need it, the brand is Elbesee.
The finished embroidered picture is 4 by 6 inches, and can be simply displayed propped on a shelf. You could also display in a frame, or on an easil - not provided.
