Creating colourful clothes with recycled fabrics and silk painted designs.

I've been sewing since Age 13 - when I followed a pattern for a 'twist dress'; then continued making all my clothes until mid twenties. I was making patchwork garments back then: cotton dresses, suits, and a hexagon patched corduroy coat, fashionable in early 1970s. I wanted to be a fashion designer and started at Manchester, but changed my degree studies to Printed Textiles as I also loved drawing.

In the late 70s I took commissions for alterations and bespoke dressmaking. After having a family in the early 80's I was sewing boat upholstery while living in Gibraltar.
After returning to UK in late 80's, and following a post grad course in printed textiles, I painted 'repeat design' furnishing designs on paper for international sale through agents in 1990s', when I did a massive amount of colour mixing; and also worked in agents' studio sometimes.

I took studio space in Wheelcraft Centre when moved to Devon in mid 90's where I taught myself silk painting with chemical dyes. I started decorative furniture painting, using skills learnt while textile designing; then began mural painting late 90's. Murals incorporated everything I'd practiced about composition and colour.

In 2009 I started making clothes again, with the idea to make quilts, but fashion ideas started taking over.
Several years ago I started using my allotment plants for natural dyes for silk; as a background to my designs in chemical dyes. During the last year, I've started learning processes for surface design using plant dyes, to use over my naturally dyed silks; and which continually fascinates me as I learn new techniques such as 'eco-printing'.

I also do paintings on wood in theme of seeds and life forces.
