My passion is to craft every stitch, which means I work mindfully, taking my time with everything I create. I enjoy the handfeel of my luxury yarns, my high quality knitting pins and the magical yet simple process of stitch creation. I knit without patterns, often letting my ideas develop as each piece evolves. I do not try to replicate the flawless perfection associated with machine made knitwear, but I do work patiently and sensitively to produce something unique, practical and beautiful. I call my work 'Wearable Art'.
I create scarves, shawls and something I call 'neck graces'. Neck graces quite simply grace the neck! My creations are typically simple in form and worked with the best quality yarns that I can find. I look for handspun, hand dyed yarns that are crafted by passionate artisan spinners and dyers who use superior quality fibres including pure wool, silk, bamboo, hemp, cotton and recycled clothing. I also knit merino yarns from larger scale enterprises that offer more affordable opportunities when I need great quantities for more challenging projects. I do not use acrylic yarns.
My work ranges from lighter ultra fine sock/fingering weight knits to substantial pieces knitted from super chunky thick-and-thin art yarns. My wearable art pieces are crafted from yarns across the range.
My hand-knitted scarves display charming idiosyncrasies associated with artisan products. I work without patterns and create simple pieces from luxurious yarns. My scarves are designed and crafted by me, and I love the freedom that I have to create unique, beautiful, tactile and warm wearables for my customers.
My work is intentionally distinct from the soulless perfection of machine-made items, and I craft my garments with enjoyment and enthusiasm. Any technical errors in my work are my own, and should be viewed as evidence of freeform knitting and problem solving! They are part of a garment's story, and are woven, quite literally, into its character. My yarn-joins are often visible and are occasionally accentuated.
I knit sympathetically and reactively, adapting my knitting tension to work with the yarn, rather than adhering to traditional methods that advise a more strictly maintained tension. My passion is for working beautiful yarns well and in the creation of unique and indulgently tactile garments and wearable art.
