Amethyst is the birthstone for Aquarius and February and the stone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversaries.
Amethyst is also associated with St Valentine.
St Valentine was a Christian priest during the rule of Emperor Claudius II.
The Emperor had forbidden soldiers to marry, as he believed they made better soldiers if unwed.
St Valentine would perform marriages in secret.
The soldiers could recognise him by the amethyst ring, carved with a cupid, that he wore.
He was executed on February 14th 269 and canonised in 496.

Added to the Seconds Sunday sale as an old line rather than having any imperfections.
Pretty, sparkly earrings of 6mm and 4mm amethyst beads, a 6mm "rose" Swarovski flower bead and a 4mm "light amethyst" Swarovski bicone.
They catch the light beautifully.
Threaded onto gold vermeil headpins and hung from gold vermeil ear-wires.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with gold, and the wires are stamped "925".
These drop earrings measure approximately 1 inch (2.5cm).
Presented in a small organza gift bag.
