Simple Earth Jewellery
Using black clay to make jewellery is a natural extension of my ceramic making. It’s a change of focus, a different pace, to concentrate on small scale creations. My Simple Earth Jewellery Collection has the same ethos as my ceramics – to allow the clay to speak for itself, using just my hands and as few tools as possible, and decorating with coloured slips and simple motifs. The pieces are dried and fired in the same slow way as my ceramics – I hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoy making them!

Full description
I made these triangular earrings in black stoneware ceramic, decorated with blues, creams and yellows which I allowed to run and mingle onto the clay. The black clay background contrasts with the colours of the decoration, so they are quite distinctive when worn, especially with the dramatic shape. I don’t glaze the clay, so the colours are matt after an 11-hour firing to 1185 degrees celsius giving an abstract painterly effect. Each design is an individual creation – I don’t use transfers or bought-in patterns, just me and a little brush! They have a stud and post fitting on the back, and are approximately 3.5 cms long, designed to position with the short side highest, forming a long arrow shape. I pack my earrings in either a square or pillow shaped box according to their size - one of the images shows a couple of pairs of earrings from the Simple Earth Collection ready to be sent off. Postage quoted is for small parcel rate - if less than quoted I always refund the difference via Paypal.
