We've been raising fibre sheep on our small Welsh farm since 2011.
This is slow fashion, where each sheep takes a whole year to grow their fleece, then when it's at it's best, we employ a professional shearer to carefully remove the fibre, [just like a haircut] The fleece is then sorted by hand, removing any dirty or coarse bits, before sending it onto a mill where it's turned into woollen knitting yarns which we then sell, or knit with it ourselves. This whole process can take up to 2 years, but it's fibre that can last a lifetime if cared for correctly.
Our 2nd grade fibre is turned into hand felted fleece rugs, or throws, similar to sheepskins, but using this method our sheep remain alive, and living their best life roaming the hills.
All money that is raised from the sale of our fibre is used to keep our sheep happy and healthy, and pay for the upkeep of our farm, and wherever possible to enrich the wildlife that lives alongside us.
