Hi, I’m Christine. I chose to become a full-time craftsperson, for the most part because I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t making things and I knew I would never quite be happy not making. There was no encouragement from the carreers advisor at school who told me not to do it. It was not on her radar at all, to her mind it was not a job.
I had learnt enamelling in my teens, selling the resulting pieces to school friends, at small craft shows and school fairs. As a member of a local craft guild I attended even more events.
Wanting to continue my studies, I applied for a place at art school and took a foundation course. After this I decided I’d like to know more about designing contemporary jewellery and learn traditional silversmithing skills. This I did on a Design degree course at Edinburgh College of Art.
Returning to Bromsgrove, I set up my home workshop making jewellery in the style, unusual techniques and materials I had used on my course, however I was drawn back to my first love, enamelling.
I now have a studio at Avoncroft Arts Centre, a small complex which hosts many arts and craft recreational day and evening classes. It is located in a lovely semi-rural position on top of a hill on the outskirts of Bromsgrove, set back from the busy A38. In summer I can watch dragonflies, flitting here and there just outside the studio.
I aim to offer a unique twist on enamelling by cutting original designs in copper and applying enamels in my own particular style. I currently only supply my jewellery direct through folksy, my own website and other online platforms, in addition to fairs and events and the occasional exhibition. You can be assured that your friends and loved ones will receive a very special handmade gift, nothing run of the mill, or mass-produced.
My designs are inspired by many things, with natural forms featuring a great deal in what I make. Sometimes I just work by instinct, spontaneously drawing patterns in the powdered glass and then firing the piece to preserve the design.
I love to pass on my skills, and arrange short introductory workshop sessions for individuals and small groups (2-4 people) who want to try enamelling for themselves.

These are absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much. I've also done a one on one enamelling course with Christine which I can review here to say it was excellent, a most enjoyable experience and highly recommended.

Thank you so much for my manta ray pendant, Christine. It is utterly beautiful. And very special that you hand-delivered it too, thank you very much! The quality and craftmanship is wonderful. The manta ray has a special meaning for me and I feel connected to that now when I wear it. Would highly recommend you and already have!
