this piece of felted wool was so soft yet durable and I knew would make a lovely washbag, cosy and capacious for all those potions and lotions so vital when away from home. I felt the purple would tone nicely with the subtle colour that the tannin gave to the fabric and showcase the lovely leaves nicely.

Full description
This capacious washbag is made from felted wool that has been dyed with a natural tannin and covered in leaves collected from the woods of North Yorkshire. Teamed with a deep purple waterproof lining for a pop of colour, the washbag closes with a cream zip and has useful handles at either end for holding or hanging.
The bag measures 240mm long, 150mm wide and 85mm deep so big enough for a large bottle of shampoo or a razor and gel.
The bag is padded with a fusible fleece to help protect the valuable potions and lotions within.
I prepare the fabric by soaking in an oak gall tannin which is colourless until it interacts with leaves and an iron blanket in a steam bath. Peeling the leaves back to reveal the glory of the fabric is the most exciting thing.
