I have been opposing the badger cull since 2012, when I set up a badger vaccination scheme in South Devon, in the hope it would give farmers a choice over whether to take part in the badger cull or whether to follow the science. I wanted to make a sculpture the showed the vulnerability, as well as the beauty of badgers, & was inspired when I saw a tiny postage stamp sized image of a badger in the back part of this pose, taken by wildlife photographer Richard Costins, on a tear off postcard at the bottom of a Badger Trust calendar. Having only the back view to go on, the legs and paws of this small scale model went left, right, up, down until I could make the bumps of the shoulders of the back view marry up with those on the tiny photo. This was a real challenge to make, especially as she had no internal armature until it was all worked out, & she melted completely after a trip back from the foundry, during time spent in an August bank holiday traffic jam & had to be rebuilt again!

A small bronze sculpture of a curled badger looking over her shoulder, in life like patinated foundry bronze, and with a smooth contemporary Art Deco styling. Suitable for a wildlife lover or for anyone who collects antiques of a stylish early 20th century design. Life like down to her claws, she will not scratch your furniture, as all badgers walk on the pads of their feet to keep their claws away from the ground. Smooth to the touch like a large polished pebble, she is in fact weighty like a rock, being made of patinated, (heat coloured), metal bronze. Individually patinated in one of the UK's premier bronze foundries in Stroud, there are small variations in colouring. I can send you photos of the editions I have in stock for you to chose from. This is the small scale model from which I later sculpted a life sized bronze badger, which is also available to order at £10,000.
