Welcome to my birding world of life-like wool-sculpted birds, where no detail is too small or feather too tiny for me to notice and recreate in fibre.
Hand-made using needlefelt techniques and incorporating ethically sourced natural materials, my birds, from their feathers to the plants that they are posed on, are made from plant and sheared animal fibres and reflect my values of sustainable making: re-use, recycle and compost back to nature.

This is one of a pair of Wrens I made this year, inspired by the range of different habitats that are occupied by our British native birds. Wrens are happy at that niche lower level next to the ground but across a wide range of spaces, from woodland to the beach. This is of course my woodland pair and it may be followed eventually by other depictions of Wrens in very different spaces but still thriving. I love them as a pair, and they have been on a shelf in my eye-line as I create more birds at my desk, one at each end with collected and hand-made feathers and nature-writing books between them. They are much more beautiful in real-life than I could manage to convey through my camera.

Full description
A totally unique, one-of-a-kind, artfully crafted hyper-realistic bird. Perfectly sculpted in a variety of wool fibres, this Wren is packed full of character. She stands on an off-cut of a branch ethically sourced from Dartmoor, speckled with moss to capture that wonderful woodland-floor habitat of the Wren. She has her wings out-stretched, her head up-turned and beak open wide as, loud but tiny, she sings her heart’s wishes out to the winter.
11cms tall on her wooden plinth and 15cms at the widest point, this tiny bird sculpture brings the wildness and beauty of nature inside. Each tiny flight feather has been patiently hand-crafted, coloured and posed at full-stretch from the body and forming the iconic cocked tail. A perfect gift for any birder or avid bird watcher, she is hyper-realistic, firmly felted in ethically sourced wool fibres and has yarn-wrapped and sealed wire legs and beak beneath a beady black eye.
Carefully observed and patiently detailed to be true to life, this is certain to be an eye-catching yet diminutive piece of bird art ideal for the lover of nature in your life. A very special gift indeed.
