HANDWOVEN PATRIOTIC DORSET BUTTON AND KUMIHIMO BRAIDED NECKLACE
I made a Dorset button by weaving crochet cotton around a brass ring. The colours are red, white and blue. I also made two 'linking' rings in red cotton thread worked over smaller brass rings.
The creation of Dorset buttons was originally a large cottage industry in Dorset, England between 1622 and 1850, after which they were overtaken by machine-made buttons.
Patriotic Colours for Great Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand and USA.
I also made a braid using the same colours and the Japanese Kumihimo technique. I have used nickel-free silver plated jewellery findings to attach the Dorset buttons to the braid and for the adjustable fixture at the back of the necklace.
SIZE - The inner circumference can be adjusted from 18.5" (47cm ) to 19.75" (50cm)
This stylish necklace is my own design so it is truly unique.
