Full description

I made this button using the traditional Dorset button technique of working thread around a brass ring, including beads. I have used festive red and green cotton thread, with green and clear glass beads. I have incorporated a thread shank on the back for easy sewing on to a project, or by using a safety pin, it could be used as a brooch, maybe to add a little sparkle and shine to a plain dress, top or jacket.

The creation of Dorset buttons was originally a large cottage industry in Dorset, England between 1622 and 1850, after which they were replaced by machine-made buttons. They are enjoying a revival and I love making them using contemporary designs and modern materials.
