Welcome to my birding world of life-like wool-sculpted birds, where no detail is too small or feather too tiny for me to notice and recreate in fibre.
Hand-made using needlefelt techniques my bird feathers and the plants that the birds come posed on are all made by me using plant and sheared animal fibres, ethically sourced and sustainably used.
I have lots of exciting ideas for bird making this year which are setting my needles aquiver with anticipation.
To kick the year off, I am offering you, for the first time on Folksy, a chance to commission whichever Tiny Bird might make your heart thrill, mounted in an adorable dainty bell jar. I'll explain more in the listing itself, but do plan to purchse ahead of time if you have a tiny bird gift in mind for someone or at sometime special. Each one takes several hours to complete, longer if you want to add botanical elements into the design.
Right now, I am busy designing and making some very colourful tiny birds for Valentine's Day. One or two can try to guess who if you spot the little clue in this message.

Having made a few large bird sculptures, I was feeling a little tired and grumpy. I decided to reflect this in a tiny bird, and so the grumpy fledgling Wren was born. I trust he will bring you smiles and delight as, honestly, I was grinning through most of his making process, and when he sat in my hand finally finished it made me laugh out loud. He is just so grumpy and fluffy and sweet!

Round and fluffy, this grumpy Wren fledgling might just be the cutest baby bird on Folksy. He is hand-made from wool fibre using the needle-felting technique, with yarn-wrapped wire legs, tiny glass eyes and a chubby beak coated in felter’s-wax.
This little bird sculpture has all the grown-up Wren feather colours but in a fluffy baby finish. He is 7cms long from his chubby beak to fluffy tail and no more than 8cms tall including his fluffy baby-down crowned head. He can sit in your hand or perch on your desk, shelf or tabletop for grumpy inspiration throughout your day, or he could stand proudly on a slice of Bodmin Moor or Whitstable Beach beach-combed wood (just message to let me know so I can add this to your parcel).
