This is one of a pair of Wrens inspired by two pieces of Dartmoor wood gifted to me by my woodturner brother, and particularly suited to the range of habitats that are occupied by these tiny birds. Wrens are happy at that niche lower level next to the ground but across a wide range of spaces, from woodland to the beach. I love this brash male wren singing with his head flung back to make the loudest of calls, contrasting with the curious cocked-head female wren who is quietly focused on watching me beside him. They are currently sitting on top of a tiny cupboard by the back doors to my garden, enjoying the sounds of spring dunnocks, titmice and wrens outside. They make a very special tableau celebrating the nature of birds.

An artfully handmade needle felt bird sculpted in natural Corriedale, Merino and Shetland wool fibre, standing on a mossy branch of ethically sourced Dartmoor wood. Full of exuberant energy, this singing Wren is life-size and realistically patterned. Each tiny flight feather has been patiently hand-crafted, coloured and posed in both wings, so that they are held at full-stretch from the body and held upright into the iconic cocked tail of our beloved garden and hedgerow bird. A perfect gift for any birder or bird watcher, every detail is captured in the firmly felted wool, with yarn-wrapped wire legs and a sealed wool beak and those gorgeous twinkling dark eyes. This is a tiny bird sculpture that will bring the wildness and beauty of nature inside to keep you or your loved ones company on a desk or shelf in the shade of a potted plant, bird book or binoculars.
Wrens are sweet characterful little birds, who spend a lot of their time in low vegetation, catching your ear with their loud song and your eye with their perky short tail held upright.
