Item details

I am always drawn to the sea and much of my work is inspired by the seas and coast around the UK. This is my interpretation of a crashing wave, capturing the drama and movement of the incoming tide.

Full description

Wearable art wool felt brooch, made from wool and silk, using the wet felting technique. The shape of the crashing wave has been highlighted with wool and fine strands of yarn, over the background of wool tops. The colours of the ocean are represented with blues, teals and greys, with splashes of white.

I started with photographs of waves that I took on a very windy day, then painted a watercolour sketch to pull out the colours and shades of the sea, before selecting the right wool tops, silks and yarns to recreate the rolling wave in wet felt.

A wearable art brooch is a unique piece of jewellery, perfect for gifting to makers, artists, crafters and art lovers. With its wave theme, this brooch would also be a lovely present for anyone who loves the sea. Pin it to a denim jacket or shirt, or use it to hold a scarf or shawl in place.

This brooch is approximately 17cm/3" at its widest point and attaches with a metal brooch pin.

I use 1st class post within the UK. If you are outside of the UK, please contact me to ask about a delivery price.
