Living in Orkney, and especially life on Sanday, allows a slow way of living. Our old croft cottage looks over the farmland and out to sea - we can see Papa Westray from here. The peace and quiet here really helps me to come up with new ideas for my craft, and keeps me busy during the long dark winter when there is little else to do.

Full description

Made from an oak Scottish whiskey barrel, this ballpoint pen is hand crafted in my studio on the coast of Sanday, Orkney. I've no idea which brand of Scottish whisky, but the workshop smells amazing when I turn this wood - and I'm not a whiskey drinker!

This rather chunky pen has a subtle, understated pattern to the grain so typical of oak. I love that the wood is reclaimed from a whisky barre, and the slow lifestyle that island life allows.

The pen uses a Parker refill (black ink supplied) and the metal components are gold plate. The tip section unscrews to allow you to change the refill, and the top finial houses the twist mechanism that propels and retracts the writing nib.

The pens short barrel length makes it easier to use in smaller hands, and I have created the barrel with the widest point towards the centre of the pen keeping the weight in the centre, giving the pen a neutral balance in use.

Postage and packing is included in the price.
