Full description

This oversized pendant features an elongated oval of fordite with a vibrant pattern of vertical stripes. The statement piece of fordite is smoothly bezel set in sterling silver and it is finished with a simple (and generously sized) loop bail, the pendant measures approx 77mm by 26mm (inc bail) and it comes with an 16 inch silver chain (the bail could easily fit a ribbon or thong if you wanted to swap it over). The fordite has a central stripe of sparkly royal blue edged with red and black, other colours in the stripes include yellow, silver, red and white, a lot of them are sparkly. The setting is open backed so you can see the different pattern on the reverse.

Fordite is layers of cured paint that built up in the spray booths at vehicle factories, the panels would be placed on rails to be sprayed and paint would build up on the rails getting cured after each coat. The guy I bought the rough material from worked at the Kenworth plant in Chillicothe USA. Kenworth make cabs for big 18 wheel trucks often with custom paint colours hence the range in this piece. Changes in how vehicles are painted mean that fordite is only formed in small quantities now and it is becoming increasingly difficult to source. I have a bit of a stockpile of rough material from a range of factories so if you fancy something else then drop me a message. You can see some of the rough in the photos but it is not included in the sale.
