Using black clay to make jewellery is a natural extension of my ceramic making. It’s a change of focus, a different pace, to concentrate on small scale creations. My Simple Earth Jewellery Collection has the same ethos as my ceramics – to allow the clay to speak for itself, using just my hands and as few tools as possible, and decorating with coloured slips and simple motifs. The pieces are dried and fired in the same slow way as my ceramics – I hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoy making them!

Full description
These eyecatching distinctive earrings are handmade from black stoneware clay and decorated in shades of lemon, yellow and white with the design fired into the clay at 1185 degrees C. I shaped the soft clay into an irregular triangle then trailed brush strokes of liquid coloured clay in a random abstract design. After firing, I have finished the two triangles with sterling silver stud and post fittings so that the earrings fit flat against your ear lobe. The shades of yellow contrast beautifully with the black ceramic to make really striking earrings. The triangle shapes are approx. 2cms x 2.5cms x 3cms and to help you assess the scale I have photographed the pair with some finger rings, and dried flowers. The earrings are sent to you boxed and make a lovely gift.
