Abstract panels of mingling lemon yellow and orange yellow form a tabard effect on this small ceramic art form – a full length panel on one side, and mid length panel on the other. I manipulate soft clay in my hands to make the hollow form, then use coloured slips (liquid clay) applied with a natural sponge to create the decoration on the front and back. When the slip has dried, I incised curved lines and dots to reveal the matt black stoneware clay beneath. After two firings in my kiln the result is Jasper, the latest addition to the Kindred Collection. Jasper is an intriguing art piece alone, or can form a ‘family group’ with other pieces from the collection. Kindred pieces also form a quiet focal point for meditative practices such as yoga or mindfulness. 11.5 cms high.

When the slip has dried, I incised curved lines and dots to reveal the matt black stoneware clay beneath.
