The inspiration for this art work, comes from a common thread that runs throughout my work, continually exploring the often fragile balance between mankind, nature and the landscape.
This sculptural piece has been shaped and textured to give a suggestion of the landscape draped around the human form, the inside having a more cave like, sanctuary feel, leaves being pressed and embedded into the outside and inside of the form, conveying an over all feeling of peace and tranquility.
This sculptural piece has been fired to a frost proof temperature and can stand alone or be lit up with a candle, or be used as a container for a small plant, indoors or outdoors.

Full description

This piece has been hand built using the ancient clay technique of building a form with clay coils, to create the initial form.

The sculpture is then impressed with various textures, often using found materials such as stones, wood and plant materials, building up the surface with colored decorating slip using in this case, ferns as a resist.

After careful drying and an initial firing, thin washes of oxides and glazes are built up in layers, enhancing the original texture and creating a landscape like feel on the surface.

This piece has a width of 15 cm, a height of 31 cm and a diameter of 15 cm
