Nature and its changing seasons, have inspired this Autumnal leafy pendant.
The Common Lime tree grows locally in areas, although is not native to Scotland, however like the Oak tree, is said to have much Symbolism and Folklore woven around it, from the earliest ties between humankind and trees.
I like to create small batches of these necklaces and see them as a small piece of wearable art.

These leafy ceramic necklaces, start life from real leaves from the Common Lime Tree that grows in my local surroundings.
Leaves are collected then rolled and pressed into the damp surface of a terracotta clay sheet, before being individually cut.
After drying, the pendants recieve a first firing to a high temperature to harden the clay, washes of natural occuring oxides are layered onto the pendant to enhance fine details, then dipped into a clear glaze, giving a very smooth and tactile finish on both sides, after the second time in the kiln.
The necklace is then strung with a waxed cotton chord, with special slip knots allowing the wearer to adjust the length to suit.
Coming in an attractive, sturdy presentation box, made from recycled paper fibres from the Tiny Box Company, this unique piecec of wearable art measures approx 7.5 cm in length at the longest point, 4.5 cm at its widest point and a thickness of 4 mm.
When worn the cord length will be approx 38cm, but can be adjusted.
Designed by Susan Wade - French in Scotland.
