Full description

Unique real winkle and mearl seashell pen made on Orkney. This hand crafted, one-of-a-kind two piece twist-pen comes to you tucked into his own leatherette pouch and is made with periwinkles from the Sands of Wright, South Ronaldsay, and mearl collected from the beach at Weddel Sound which runs between the islands of Burray and Glimps Holm. Little pieces of Mother of Pearl are visible within the pen barrels, along with some "sea-glitter" - finely crushed seashell that sparkles through the resin. I cut the mearl into smaller, more manageable pieces to make them easier to attach to the chassis tube, along with the crushed periwinkle shells to create this exquisite pen. The resin has a pale green pigment to give a colour similar to that of the water within our kelp beds, where the Selkies (grey seals) swim in search of food. Turned to reveal the interior cross-section of the calcified mearl, with the winkles seeming to swim among the fragments, this pen is finished with 15 layers of carnauba wax polish, it has polished chrome metal fittings and uses a Cross refill, available anywhere. The pen is 135mm long, about 15mm diameter and weighs 38g.

The price includes post and packing.
