Simple Earth Jewellery
Using black clay to make jewellery is a natural extension of my ceramic making. It’s a change of focus, a different pace, to concentrate on small scale creations. My Simple Earth Jewellery Collection has the same ethos as my ceramics – to allow the clay to speak for itself, using just my hands and as few tools as possible, and decorating with coloured slips and simple motifs. I use sterling silver fittings. The pieces are dried and fired in the same slow way as my ceramics – I hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoy making them!

Full description
For these earrings I used soft black clay which I textured with a piece of tree bark. I decided on a soft fan shape for the design, allowing the outer edge to remain irregular, then used white liquid clay to fill the texture, wiping off the excess so that the white colour remained in the bark crevices. The earrings have a sterling silver disc and post fitting for pierced ears and I have included some rings in the images to give an idea of size. I pack them in either a square or pillow shaped box - one of the images shows a couple of pairs of earrings from my Simple Earth Collection ready to be sent off. Postage quoted is my estimate – if the actual postage cost is less, I refund the difference via PayPal. Each of my earring designs is an individual spontaneous creation – I don’t use transfers or bought-in patterns, it’s just my imagination and a little brushwork!
