The Lucienne Collection is named after the textile designer Lucienne Day whose work in the 1950s influenced a wide area of design. Her textile ‘Calyx’ was created for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and is still much admired today. She explored many design sources, but my Lucienne Day favourites, such as Calyx, are from the natural world. My own designs feature a nod to cow parsley, marsh grass, vine tendrils and country landscapes.

Fifi is a handmade vase in matt black stoneware ceramic with bands of colours in pastel and earthy shades as decorative additions fired into the clay. Each of my vases is different, (the main image shows Fifi with other smaller pieces), and I use what is known as the sgraffito technique to make carved marks through the colour bands while the clay is soft. Fifi's motifs are inspired by freshly ploughed fields, and the spears of plant seedlings pushing through the earth. I glaze the interior so that Fifi can be used as a vase to show off dried or fresh flowers, but the piece can stand alone or with others from the Lucienne Collection as abstract ceramic art. On the base is my potter's mark of a swallow in flight. 23cms high and 25 cms circumference around the base.
