I love fungi, and the Fly Agaric is the classic toadstool. I've been wanting to make a linocut of one one for a while and had been planning this one mentally for several months. During the process of printing, I found that there was a variation in the colours coming through as I went along, so I decided to play with this and make the most of the reds and oranges popping through the darker colours, accentuating the autumnal feel of the picture. The toadstool that this print is based on was growing on a bank near us, under a mixed hedge of birch, hazel and pine trees bordering a field.

This is one of a limited edition of 16 of my linocut 'Toad Stool'. It is a six-colour reduction linocut, a process which means that the block of lino that I have used to print it has been cut away a little more for each layer, and is therefore pretty much destroyed by the end of the process. The edition is limited by the number of prints that are made during this process.
As you should be able to see from the photographs, it is quite a varied edition - each individual image is unique due to it being hand-printed, and even more so with this edition as I have allowed the ink to 'have its say' a little more than usual to exploit the autumnal feel of the first layers showing through.
It is printed on Stonehenge 250gsm warm white acid free paper.
The image area is 11.5cm x 9.5cm (4.5" x 3.75" approx).
The paper is approx 25.5cm x 18.5cm (10" x 7.5")
I used Caligo Safewash oil-based relief print inks, which do not require solvents for cleaning up. The prints are dry, but always remain slightly tacky.
