Another one in my series, I love the shapes of the historic bottle ovens in Stoke-on-Trent, the major hub of the UK pottery industry during the 19th and 20th centuries. These ovens were phased out when the Clean Air Act was brought in, and most were demolished, but over 40 still remain around the city, and I find them a fascinating subject for my work as each is a slightly different shape, and in different states of repair and surroundings. The Chetam's factory in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent was originally much bigger than this, in fact this building had another in front of it, and the right-hand end of the building was connected to it, so when it was restored in the 1990s that corner was rebuilt completely to match.

Full description

This is a three-stage reduction linocut, in two colourways, of what remains of the Chetam's Pottery works in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent.

Both colourways are in a limited edition of 10 each, handprinted on Japanese Ho-Sho paper with Caligo Safewash oil-based inks. The image is 10cm x 15.5cm, (roughly A6) and the paper is 20 x 14cm. Each print is hand-inked and hand-printed, so each is slightly different giving them each a unique quality. As this is a reduction print, the lino plate is gradually cut away during the process so that no more prints can be made.

Designed by Mary Parker in Stoke-on-Trent
