I am fascinated by fungi, I love the way that they appear out of the ground, or in this case from the bark of dead trees. Our eldest daughter and I enjoy doing fungus walks in the autumn and photographing as many as we can find. I'm particularly interested in the delicate arrangement of the gills, and this is always a challenge in this medium as you have to carve between them. It is very satisfying when it works, I am still practicing!

This is the second in a series of linocuts of the Velvet Shank fungus, the only edible fungus to grow in the U.K. in winter, I believe. They grow on tree stumps, these were in our local park. They are printed with black Caligo Safe Wash oil-based relief ink on BFK Rives 250gsm white paper. The print area is 3"/7.5cm square, the paper is 7"x5" approx. Since it is a single colour, it could be printed in any other colour - if you have a request for an individually printed version in a shade of your choice, please let me know and I'll try my best to oblige. This would be in water-based ink, however.
