I make bright colourful fused glass gifts.

Hi! My name is Susan and the photo above shows you my home studio which is in Westhill , Aberdeenshire. I am extremely fortunate to have a dedicated space to work in, I think my partner was getting fed up with how my crafts would start spreading around the house, so when we renovated an old cottage he was more than happy to allocate me an area to keep all my 'stuff' in! I wasn't complaining! I have since crept into 'his garage space' with my two kilns! I have a glass kiln and a ceramic kiln which can also fire glass ( that one is probably my favourite as I can fit lots more in). I've been fusing glass now for 6 years and I still feel like everyday is a learning day, I have a thirst for knowledge so when I am not making glass items I am reading up on new techniques.
My days consist of getting the kids off to school, walking the dog, quick clean up of the house then pouring myself a coffee and into the studio for a few hours, bliss!
Fusing glass is not a craft that produces results immediately, firing in the kiln usually takes about 12 - 13 hours and sometimes you are firing 2, 3 times. So most items I make are made over a few days. Every glass artist will tell you there's a real excitement for your kiln to cool down to the correct temperature for you to be able to open the lid, most days I fire overnight so I can be seen going out to the garage in my jammies at 7am to see how items have fired. My neighbours must think I am mad!
