The inspiration to start Red Dragon Metal Art came as a direct response to the Coronavirus pandemic, allowing a lockdown life that incorporated creativity and the flexibility that fits in with Nicky’s role as a carer for her parents.
Having initially chosen a career in chemistry Paul left the labs and started on a path of mechanical engineering and computer aided design. 15 years later this resulted with him supervising a CNC wire forming / fabrication workshop.
Whilst on furlough in 2020 Paul took to tinkering in “Fred the Shed”, initially creating flame painted copper snails from scrap copper pipe scavenged from his Father in Laws workshop. An idea to form a simple red poppy design quickly led to a forget me not flower, resonating with everyone’s desire to honour and remember people they lost during the pandemic.
So a seed was planted and ideas started to grow and it wasn’t long before Red Dragon Metal Art was born.
Inspiration for our metal art is drawn from our love of animals and nature.
We are members of Chester Zoo and the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis and try to visit the animals there as often as we can. We are particularly fond of monkeys, seals, tigers, snow leopards and polar bears.
Whilst Paul takes care of the design and hammer swinging, the administration and dispatching is taken care of by Nicky.
As for the name Red Dragon Metal Art, it’s a celebration of Paul’s maternal family heritage; more “land of my mother’s, than land of my fathers”.

Well packaged, promptly dispatched and a lovely item. Bought as a gift and I’m very happy with my purchase, I think the recipient will be too. Thank you!

I bought one for a friend and was so impressed with the quality that I ordered one for myself.
It looks so nice perched on a picture frame.
