I’m Gill and I make sterling silver and gemstone jewellery designs that are inspired by the movement and colours of the sea and its interaction with the coastline.

I hand make sterling silver jewellery, a lot of my designs are based on textured circles inspired by the movement of the sea, some pieces include gemstones, beads or freshwater pearls. My jewellery is designed to be eye catching and individual yet quite simple and comfortable to wear for any occasion.

Most of my designs have a sparkly hammered finish to reflect the patterns on the surface of the sea. I love using perfect circles in my designs and make a lot of bold but delicate chain, sometimes adding precious and semiprecious stones and beads or ropes of pearls which I string on thread with knots between the beads. My designs are mostly uncomplicated but bold and a lot of them are one off unique pieces.

I’m inspired by the sea and its interaction with the sky and the coast. I can spend hours watching how the water moves and how the light changes the surface and then trying to work out how to interpret that into a piece of jewellery. More recent designs have been inspired by bubbly, foamy waves, pebbly tide lines and the patterns left in the sand by the receding water.

My business began as a hobby and I am mostly self taught through experimentation and trial and error and every piece is made by hand at my bench at home in East Devon, using traditional silversmithing tools. All the silver I use is recycled, the pearls and beads are sourced via reputable uk suppliers and I make every effort to minimise my waste and my impact on our planet.
