Seaside inspired jewellery, lovingly crafted from my dining room table in East Sussex.

I've always loved glass.
In fact, when I was 4, I helped myself to a fistful of colourful glass beads from the craft shelf at school; they were cool, bright and made a nice noise. I stole them and adored them on the sly for a day or two before I was caught and brought to justice by reading Peter and Jane books out loud to the headmistress during playtime (for a whole week).
Fast forward to 2016, I remembered there was something called seaglass, and thought it must be a lovely and mysterious and beautiful thing.

What actually was it once? Who once had it, whatever it was? What secret story must it hold? How many decades has it been on that seabed, rolling and tumbling about, back and fore, day in, day out?

And there I embarked on my seaglass journey and boldly set about learning how to work with it, thinking up things to make with it, how to wear it, to honour it..so the seaglass adventure (obsession) started.

I sometimes find seaglass on the shores here in Sussex. Then there's Cornwall and Devon, lots of lovely finds there. No beach goes unchecked. But Durham is the ultimate place for seaglass; read on to find out why…

One of the most famous places in the uk for seaglass hunters is Seaham in Durham, NE England, due to the old Victorian glassworks. Vats of unused molten glass was thrown out to sea at the end of the day, and incredibly it still it washes up on the beautiful heritage coast. My long-suffering gorgeous guy and I have spent many wet & cold hours seeking out the rare multi-coloured pieces, as well as the little, perfectly frosted nuggets of seaglass. These nuggets appear in a fair amount of my designs.

Seaham seaglass is over 100 years old and highly regarded.

Pebbles. Tactile & warm, with go-with-everything neutral, earthy hues. I love working with these guys, very easygoing and versatile.

Empty shells and driftwood make an appearance too. I’m very sensitive and conscientious to the quantity of shells and pebbles I gather.

Plastic.The amount of plastic in our eco-systems is alarming. I always take home as much as I can when I visit a beach, like bags of the stuff. I recycle what I can.

I work from a small dining table at home in my spare time, drilling, designing and wire-working...which of course means everyone has to eat on their laps.

My designs are fluid: I'll have an idea (some work out brilliantly, others less so), and so I crack on with creating the things you can find in my shop.
