To create the cover prints, I used a lovely handmade paper.
The book is stitched together with lovely gold thread.
The book is bound with French-Link stitching, which my favourite book artist, Moneeza, describes as ... "a technique that showcases the legacy of 16th century French monastery bookbinders. You'll also understand the dual benefits of the French link stitch in terms of structural integrity and flexibility, which is crucial, as it can help you decide if it's the most suitable technique for the book you want to make."
The pages are gorgeous watercolour paper; you’re going to love sketching or painting in this book!

Hi! I’m Lizzie, the woman behind Redheadwondering Hand Bound Books, and I created this gorgeous sketchbook because I really do believe your art is worth it!
The covers for this pretty hand bound sketchbook were made using original cyanotype prints and feature Black-Eyed Susan daisies and umbelliferae. Daisies make such lovely subjects for cyanotypes, they’re so jolly, and their structure is perfect for this form of alternative photography.
Cyanotype printing is a wonderful form of alternative photography, where you use the sun’s UV rays to develop the print. I always use flowers as the subjects for my prints, and sometimes I add some extra ingredients … for this journal, I used salt in the wet cyanotype developing process, because this gives a wonderful crystalising effect.
Cyanotype printing is an Eco-friendly art form.
The subjects for my artwork are wildflowers or flowers from my garden, which Nature produces for me in abundance!
And I use the sun to develop the prints … as an energy source, you can’t get more sustainable than that!
This gorgeous, floral sketchbook would be the perfect gift for the artist in your life.
