Full description
Winter Calling is a colourful English winter landscape with snow glimpsed through the last leaves of autumn. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. This painting was made after a winter walk I took near the Mayfield area of Sussex where there are many small hills and vales part of the high Weald (formerly a vast ancient forest in the south of England) . This view was one I came across of a farm on a hill with light snow around it seen from a small woodland. Some of leaves were still on the trees in reds and golds as well as the dark green of ivy on the oak tree trunks. I love the contrast of cold colours to warm colours. Like most of my landscape paintings, this is not an unusual subject but I have nevertheless tried to portray it in a unique way so that some of the longing I feel for such places is expressed (yes, I desperately wish I lived in that farm). The painting is on wide edge canvas painted a muted purple colour which integrates into the edges of the painting and helps propel the viewer into the scenery. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with certificate of authenticity.
