All my jewellery listed here is sterling silver except for the silver plated upcycled cutlery collection. There will be elements of sterling silver in every design (except keyrings), some will be completely so, others may have combinations of copper, brass, bronze, glass, enamel, pewter, resin, upcycled biscuit tins and pre-decimal coins and/or semi-precious stones as well. Many of the designs are one-of-a-kind.
When my friend's mother recently died, she challenged me to make something of her mother's cutlery. So I have now added cutlery to my repertoire of upcyclable materials, along with coins and biscuit tins.

I use silver plate cutlery for 3 reasons. Firstly it is cheaper and easier to come by than the sterling silver. Secondly, it might need to be sent to the Assay Office again. So, more expensive to buy in the first place and then more to be hallmarked. Finally, there is likely to be minor imperfections in the finish, after all, if they've been used for the purpose they were made for, then they will have! So overall, if you are buying an upcycled secondhand piece of cutlery, the cost of a sterling silver version might well feel prohibitive.
