Full description

Title: "Object of Transcendence: 2"

This is one of the first group of images I put together when I was working on a project to create a Goddess Shrine - a set of symbolic pictures to evoke the power and qualities of the Mahavidyas and other eastern deities.

I was trying to evoke the universal, cosmic, creative, fundamentally unknowably vast forces that we anthropomorphise as gods and goddesses. As the Goddess is seen as the vessel or container for all of manifestation, I have often used the bowl shape in my artwork, both in sculpture and printmaking. The bowl is a wonderful shape, commonplace and redolent with metaphor.

Here, that shape is suggested by the way the light is focused and collected. The tongue-like or petal shape has something of primal sensuality about it, the folding of space, the exploration of space, time and form. Many primal goddesses such as Kali ("Time"), are shown with protruding tongues, uninhibited in their taste for Reality.

The title comes from one translation of the Sanskrit 'mahavidya' as 'great transcendent knowledge'.

Size: the image is approx. 15.5 x 11.5inches, printed on A3 archive Hahnemuhle 308gm. photo rag paper.

It will be sent in a protective cellophane sleeve within a sturdy postal tube by Special Delivery International Signed For to ensure safe and fast delivery.
