The Mahavidya Goddesses.

A complete set of 10 unframed, archive quality A4 prints (approx 8.75" x 12.25").

Printed on A4 size, 308gm archive photo rag paper. Highest quality inkjet imaging.

Each print signed and titled. White border to facilitate framing.

The images were created from paintings of the symbols I created to represent the energy of each Mahavidya. These were then superimposed and layered many times. Each image is designed to be a focus for contemplation. This means that they benefit from prolonged, relaxed gazing where different levels of colour and image come to the attention in an unfolding, dynamic manner.

I have been fascinated with the Mahavidyas for many years now. Also known as "The Ten Wisdom Goddesses" or "The Ten Objects of Transcendental Knowledge", it is an ancient Indian system for defining the functions of creation as aspects of the Great Goddess.

This series of ten prints represent, or attempt to represent the energy of the Mahavidyas, visionary images of existence imagined as the ten aspects of the one Great Goddess of Manifestation. The ten Mahavidyas (or "Great Wisdoms"), are an antidote to respectable, polite, human-centred, rational views of existence that tend to want to avoid the scary unknowns of the vast Universe. They are conceived as uncontrollable, wild, powerful goddesses that care little for polite convention.
