This elongated freeform pendant features an amazing piece of vintage fordite which has been smoothly bezel set in a reversible sterling silver setting. The front (which has a higher dome) has a pattern of stripes on the left and broad swirls on the right in pale blues, burgandy, gold and white, the back (which is flat) has fine stripes in shades of blue, red and cream. (It will sit better when wearing with the domed side facing out). Measures approx 68mm (inc bail) by 23mm and comes in a gift box. The pendant is finished with a simple loop bail and sterling silver snake chain, the bail could easily fit a leather thong or ribbon if you wanted to switch it over. This would make the perfect gift for anyone who love old muscles cars or unusual jewellery.
Not heard of fordite before? It's layers of paint that build up in car spray booths getting baked hard in the curing overs in between each layer. As car fashions changed so did the colours in fordite and careful cutting and polishing allows the wide variety of colours and patterns to be revealed. I've matched these colours to the charts for Mustangs in the late 60's so I believe it to have been produced in Ford's Dearborn factory. As painting techniques have changed the amount of fordite produced has decreased and vintage material like this is becoming increasingly difficult to source. If you love fordite but not Fords the drop me a message, I cut this material myself and have a stash of rough from various factories.
