When I first started making jewellery I gained a bit of notoriety as "the welsh cake earrings lady" and so I thought it appropriate, now that I am making dollhouse miniatures, to make a welsh cake baking scene. The welsh do love their welsh cakes! For this I decided I needed the all important raisins/currants to be a focal point, but I didn't want them to be in a box that ties the scene to a particular period. I researched what dried goods used to come in before packaging really hit off and decided that a brown paper bag was the best container to suit a variety of periods. There's something very visually pleasing about a plump little brown bag full of sticky sweet currants, and it was very satisfying (though slightly infuriating trying to get the tiny things textured, glued in and looking just right!) to have brought my vision to life in 1:12 scale.
